BBC Business Boomers Hot Property Documentary

BBC Business Boomers Hot Property Documentary With new homes being built at the fastest rate for a decade, business is booming again for Britain's house builders. Profits are up and sales are surging, as companies like Barratt, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey tempt customers into the biggest purchase of their lives. With access to the lead players in the British house-building industry, Hot Property reveals the inner workings of this business and discovers why it is such a source of controversy and conflict. Exploring the all-important quest for land, the art of winning over the planners and the public, and the science of designing the ideal home for prospective buyers, this is the fascinating story of how house builders have shaped our landscape and our lives. Over the years, they have learned to be very choosy about where they build, and very cautious about only building as many houses as they can sell. From stand-offs with NIMBYs to run-ins with politicians, this is a business like no other.

Comments

  1. The quality of housing in the UK in general is truly crap, they are all just badly made new build boxes with bland looking interiors that feel cramped. The only remnants of good house building are the Victorian townhouses mostly in London but upkeeping those places is not cheap. This country called Britain is a bloody joke, your hard earned money has to all plow into just some place where you need to fucking live and these estate agents use every trick to sell even the shittiest looking craphole, these people need to get a new lease in life and piss off the face of the earth. Selling your home is pointless because all your surpluses go into their stinking shit pockets. We don't even control council housing it's all fucking illegitimate and dodge, this whole country is a stinking, snidely confused mess that still doesn't learn anything. Simple as that!
  2. He said " building houses that look good in 10, 15 or 20 years". My god I hope so! That's not a long period of time for a house. The homes need to still look good in a 100 years or more.
  3. That's why even today all of the UK is made up of brick homes. And I thought we people in Switzerland are the conservative ones in terms of our environment.
  4. noone is building houses in UK
  5. and now they are crying! no place even to die and rest!
  6. Virtually no tree! Prescott's Milton Keynes estate was the only development with trees planted along its roads.
  7. BS: 10 percent down is a must! This is absurd.
  8. Even the "new and improved" models miss the mark by a bit. The luxury homes are not luxurious, and the tract houses were not much improved. Could do better integrating the classic British aesthetic, even on smaller footprints.
  9. Just listen to that hollow knock at 39:48! Those are horrible cheap and nasty boxes these builders are building, suckering punters in with "easy close drawers" wtf! The quality of new builds in the UK is dreadful compared to the rest of northern Europe. Why can't they learn from the Dutch or Germans? I mean, double glazing and basements are still considered a luxury in the UK and the showers don't work either!
  10. What lot of rubbish it's Ponzi scheme
  11. this is why i left all this bullshyt and moved to America
  12. We don't want these shit boxes sprouting up all over ruining what's left of our countryside.
  13. How dare they sell at market price! What does he expect, to give them away for free? Moron.
  14. Britain's population is stable until you factor in immigration.

STOP IMMIGRATION AND YOU STOP THE URBAN SPRAWL
  15. If nothing is done to improve the situation in Britain, shortly people will revolt against their leaders.
  16. Time for these folks to relocate to the Central Valley of California!
For what the Picardo family paid for that HIDEOUS box without
a single decent view worth looking at they could have purchased
almost three comparable homes in the Central Valley, lived in
one and rented out the other two.
  17. Indonesia
  18. What I find amusing is that John Prescott instigated a design brief to allow developers to build a home for £60k and ended up costing £300k to the public. This just goes to show how inadequate government is when they get involved in business or planning and the general greed of developers. At this rate, nobody will own a home except rich foreign investors and the wealthy. Welcome to the UK, the land of poor renters and the rich land owners. Same story of the have and have noughts. Property is for living in to grow a family in or a place to grow not as a instrument used for financial gains.
  19. Anyone notice her cute ass? She must have got well serviced by the Arabs.
