Just so you know, this song isn't a love song. Stipe himself pointed out that it's ironic in the sense that it professes to be about love but most lines start with "I" and shows a very selfish nature instead.
One of the best songs from New Adventures in Hi-Fi which was kind of a disillusioned album. Actually, R.E.M. joked that it would be have been too big of hit if they'd released it as a single. That's R.E.M. for you! LOL

Oh, well, you might be right. I made that comment three years ago, when I barely even understood love, and I think I was basically just repeating something I heard I heard on a fansite or something, anyway. As a matter of fact, I'm surprised this video is still around. Glad that it is, though, seeing it now is almost nostalgic in a way.

Love this song, but a few mistakes in the lyrics.
1. It's "I'll want to wash you with my HAIR" (not hand).
2. I'll EAT the lotus and PEYOTE.
3. If you MAKE me your religion, I'll give you all the room you need.
4. I'll be the cup if you should bleed - not the carpet you should weave.

Although it is a well-made song, it really isn't what I'd call beautiful. It's about obsession, and is supposed to be creepy.
Art is freedom. If you don't like my video, that's OK. You seem so upset and that makes me laugh a lot. you're so negative, but do not worry, cos God is in you.
