"DOLLAR A DAY": Investing/ Budgeting for Corsets (and other stuff) | Lucy's Corsetry

Read the blog version here: http://lucycorsetry.com/2013/08/02/another-day-another-dollar-is-that-corset-worth-it/ Corsets are an investment. In a nutshell, however many dollars I spend on a corset (or on junk food, or electronics, or other nonessentials) it had better last me at least that many days. In this video I explain how I budget for corsets and other items, what investments I think are worth it or not worth it, and how to think of your purchases in the long term. I end this video with some links to my research tools on my website (which are all free!) so you can make more informed purchases/ wiser investments when it comes to corsetry. 1. Great idea!
  2. This is AWESOME, especially the bit about budgeting your sweets!  My pints of ice cream cost me a little over four dollars and are TECHNICALLY four servings...I am going to try rationing them out!

I love this, I'm going to share!
  3. All hail the logic! It's good to hear a voice of financial reason ring out in the sometimes seemingly cost-prohibitive realm of corsetry.
  4. I love this stuff, but I think your hair makes it even more fun:P
  5. I do basically the same thing, but I tend to think of it as "cost per use" and divide the price of an item by the number of times a use it. For example, my tablet computer cost me $250. If I only ever use it twice, then I'm basically paying $125 for each of those uses. But, if I use it every day for a year, each use is less than a dollar. A $15 DVD that I watch three times costs a bit less than a bargain movie ticket. If I spend $75 on party shoes and only wear them three times, then I made a pretty bad/expensive choice, but $75 for tennis shoes I wear almost every day for three years? That was a really good investment. It's really interesting to hear how your system is pretty much the same, just couched in different terminology.
  6. Well now I feel super poor.

I haven't put the time to watch any of the videos talking about making corsets. About how much would it cost to make one? I can probably borrow a sewing machine. I'd have to save up a few years to buy a decent corset at my current income, so I guess I'm wondering if I should just save up for a cheap one or try to make one myself.  (I'm a freelance animator/vfx artist. I learned sewing in art school)

Maybe I could get cheap fabric from clothes at the salvation army or something.

I've been dreaming about having one for a really long time now and recently I've been spending too much time window shopping on the internet.

PS. I love your videos. They are super informative.
  7. I learn so many things from you. It's better than some of my university classes. Don't tell my professors...
  8. This video has convinced me to save up for a custom made corset. I've been really hesitant to buy one not only for the price but because I tried to convince myself that I can find an OTR corset that will be just as effective in waist training as a custom made corset. But rather than go through a number of good ready made corsets I rather have one that is tailor made to my measurements and will fit me like a glove. I think in the long run it will save me money and time even though It'll take me about six months to save up for.
  9. Lucy, THANK YOU for all you sacrifice for this YouTube channel, your website, and your articles.  You're an inspiration!  Thank you for paving the way for beginning corsetters and giving us so many resources we can use to make an informed decision on corset purchases.  You rock!
  10. Please someone who's good at making gifs make a gif of Lucy saying "everyone wins". I would love you forever.
  11. You're such an inspiring person. I love how knowledgeable you are, and how gracefully and openly and /genuinely/ you share your knowledge with others. I really appreciate that you make these videos. I've researched corsets for years, and I find I can still learn a lot from you regularly, in some form. I just love the way that you present yourself and your charm and dynamic. You're such a great person!
  12. My teacher and mentor has the saying, "When you buy for quality, you only cry once."
  13. Lucy, had a question. I have never worn a corset before, but I'm wondering, do they make corsets that don't cinch the waist at all? I really like the shape of the corset, and I would like the back support, but I am NOT interested in making my waist smaller or pulling tight fabric around my abdomen at all, no offense to you, lovely lady! Plus I already have somewhat of an hour-glass shape, so I wouldn't really need the effect of a smaller waist.
  14. Hey Lucy, can you please do more videos about money, budgeting, etc.? For some reason I just love topics like this and would love to hear you do more of them since you are so intelligent and creative. Also, you probably don't care, but I thought it was cute that all the stuff that wasn't worth $1/day for you was the exact opposite for me! I will watch the same movie dozens of times and I will get like a year of wear out of the cheap bras because my boobs are pretty small.
  15. 2:01 - Omgosh, this is the best.
  16. Love you, Lucy!
  17. Very informative and eloquently summarized, Lucy!

I am sure I am not alone in saying, we, the corseting community, truly appreciate all the time and effort you put into researching and reviewing for your channel and website.

Looking forward to your next video!
  18. I am a very tiny, but curvaceous person and as such off the rack corsets don't fit me very well and I don't want to make the investment on a custom made one until I feel ready to waist train. Do you have any suggestions for telling how curvy a corset will be OTR? I have to wear a size up for them to fit over my hips, but then my waist has a good couple inch gap. Also my spine curves in a good deal and corsets tend to make me slouch as a result, any recommendations for corsets that will help that?
  19. hey
    when your wearing your corset
pulling the strings together ( does ever corset have different outcome ?

pullling the shoulder blade together ?

arm N chest N shoulder blades
  20. Lucy d you think you could do a video on which brands you find are budget friendly? You are so eloquent at explaining these things!
