3. Nice find! I think what's happening here has nothing to do with fees. All currency exchangers have a buy and sell rate based on current prices. The rate they gave you is what they were buying them for. So it looks as if they do not charge a transaction fee, otherwise it should be listed on your paperwork. I'm sure each place does it a little differently.

The bank did not charge you any fees otherwise they would be noted.  You are lucky to have gotten that much.  I work at a bank overseas and it costs 3 Euros to change money no matter what you are doing (in this case I would have waived the fee because you seem nice and anything around 0-6 Euros is not much money and better to earn a few cents than to tell you to get lost...my coworkers don't see it this way and tell people it is too small and to just keep it).  You you would have gotten about  $2.85 for that note where I work.  You got a pretty good deal if you only paid fifty cents to convert that note into US Dollars.  The buying rate and the difference between that and the rate you see on the internet (which is only for digital money and exists as a rate that banks use to send huge sums of money) is how much you paid in ''fees''. Of course the banks need to make money and the buy rate is always lower than the real value and the sell rate (if you needed Pesos) is always higher. They get you coming and going.

8. I just looked up the exchange rate and its $6.48 for 100 pesos.  So you were charged 58 cents.  Not too bad for a small transaction. That was some Mexican's lunch money.
