  2. Im 25 and planning on using my tax return that is coming up. Doing this to get started and increasing what i put into retirement from there.

  4. Folks invest in IRA,Roth Index funds it will out preform a manged mutual fund .
  5. The only caveat is that you need earned income to contribute to a Roth IRA. Contributions are limited to $5500 or your earned income, whichever is less. So the teenager would need to have income from a job to contribute to a Roth, otherwise mutual funds are a better option. Also, they should consider saving for college instead of retirement, but a Roth can be a good option for that too.
