Unless you have a good internet plan up front the better idea for $10k would be park $5k in a Vanguard All the World ETF that pays quarterly dividends, put another $5k into a Bank Term Deposit that obviously pays interest rates with US Federal Reserve raising interest rates over 2017 interest bearing investments look like they will be increasing returns this year.
