About the Speaker: Cynthia McKinney is a former US Representative, and was the 2008 Green Party nominee for President of the United States. In 2004, McKinney was awarded the 5th annual Backbone Award for her willingness to openly criticize and question the Bush administration and call for an investigation into the 9/11 attacks. On December 30, 2008, McKinney was on a humanitarian mission by the Free Gaza Movement aboard the Dignity ship, when the ship was rammed by the Israeli Navy. Barred from reaching Gaza and forced to dock in Lebanon, the ship, sailing in international waters, carried physicians, medical supplies and activists. About the Event: We as Americans directly contribute to the blood thats shed in Palestine. As the United States government funds the weapons which Israel uses in its attacks, it is our tax dollars which constitute these funds. Whats more, Israel is the largest recipient of foreign aid from the US, which promotes the building of further illegal settlements on Palestinian land. McKinney will discuss the little-known details of just how big a role America plays in bolstering the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
