Investing in Calgary Real Estate in 2016: Buy Now or Wait?

Here, I look at whether 2016 is a good time to invest in real estate in Calgary. Our city has been hit hard economically so far this year, as well as in 2015. The old adage being "buy low and sell high", I take a look at whether buying in 2016 is good timing as an investor. 1. Act tougher in negotiations? Owners could do that in '07 when everyone and their dog was artificially bidding up prices. Now the situation has reversed. There are bloated inventories of condos, homes, secondary units and office space. Marry that with a recession that is worsening by the day and you have a situation where owners will be happy to just unload. My relatives just sold a starter home in Country hills and had to reduce the price by 35 000. That is a lot on a starter home! 2017 may be the year to buy the lows. Remember, when pendulums swing, they don't come down and stop in the middle. They go all the way to the other side first, taking out all the speculators along the way. Just my 2 Cents.
