Junk Silver -- Is It All Equal?

What's your strategy if/when you buy junk. Also, a few other pickups.

  1. I prefer Walking liberties, Franklin's, and mercs. That is the only 90% I Buy. Keep stacking man.
  2. I just paid $72.17 for a roll of Merc Dimes. Spot price at the time was about $17.92/oz.

    I got approx. 3.58 oz. of Ag x 17.92 = $64.15.

I paid a difference of $8.02 when divided by 3.58 oz = $2.24 per oz. above spot for ea. oz.

I paid $1.4434 for each dime. This was supposed to be a sale at BGASC.

So that's about 14.43 x face value ? I think all the math is correct ? Was this a deal ?
  3. Just saw this video (after subscribing). LOL, I feel the same way after visiting my LCS. I was lucky that my LCS had sold Kennedy's, Walking Libs, Franklins, and Washington's at melt value. I also bought Peace Dollars from him at $3 over melt. Morgans were more expensive, but I didn't ask how much since I already have a few and wasn't in the market for any more. In case you haven't seen, here is a guide for melt-valuation for some constitutional silver: http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html
  4. My favorite is 1964 Kennedy's because of the lack of wear in almost all of them. Second is pre-65 Roosevelt's for the same reason.
  5. I have a few slabbed Morgan's so not verse in the constitutional silver. I will say constitutional silver is better than no silver ✨👏✨👏✨👏 it's all Real Money !
  6. Started as stacker, then was buying only junk silver and after that fell in love with Morgans... Cant't do anything, keep buying Morgans now :)
  7. can't beat the half dollars. 64' kennedy's or franklins.
  8. All depends on where you buy it
  9. Great video buddy, thanks for sharing!
  10. I prefer Walking Liberties and Mercs, but they do tend to be a little higher, so if you can find them at the same price as the newer ones I would pick them up.
  11. I think the rosies and washington quarters tend to be the cheapest, but I prefer walking liberties and franklins since there is no doubt design wise that they are silver, and they aren't as expensive as mercs and dollars.
  12. Great pickups! Sometimes I get lucky & find some 90% for 10-12x's face but normally 12-14x's face unless it is an extremely nice coin then I may have to pay a little extra. I normally steer clear of the 40% JFK 1/2 dollars unless I get a really good deal, I recently picked up about 15 of them but I was paying a little over $12 an oz. If I can beat spot price I will buy it no matter what it is!!
  13. I love 90% Constitutional coins. For dimes- I will take the Mercury Dimes over the Rooses. For halves, my favorites are the Walking Liberty half and Barbara half dollar, and will take those anytime over Franklins and JFK. I equally like the Franklin and JFK half dollar. For quarters, I will take the Standing Liberty quarters over the Washington quarters. Hmmm... it appears that I am partial to coins with Lady Liberty obverse over any other coin design. Nice pick-ups. Thanks for sharing.
  14. I am the same way..I hate leaving empty handed. Like you said, junk silver isn't they most cost effective way to add weight. At 12.5x you are paying 18.75 an ounce (there are about 3 half dollars in an ounce), and that is probably when silver was high 13's low 14's. It's a much better deal to buy silver eagles. But, I still love it...but I only buy at less than 12x face which is very hard to find right now. Merc dimes and Walkers are what I usually lean towards. When I see the big junk sellers at the coin shows, Rosies and quarters are always the cheapest.
  15. I can't help much on the junk silver info but i see others have. I think diversifying is always good & makes stacking a bit more interesting.
  16. Constatutional silver is a great way to diversify your stack,i tend to lean more towards Peace dollars, Kennedy halves, Washington quarters and a 50/50 mix of Mercs & Roseys for dimes. I do this because i buy it as bullion and the newer coins have less wear and carry more weight, typically not always lol. But like any precious metals as everyone will tell you, buy as close to spot as possible. Good video and great topic, thanks for sharing.
  17. I like that cougar coin!
  18. merc > rosies, mercs = walking liberties. walking liberties > franklins > kennedys assuming same condition avg circulated. Also assuming base price. quarters & rosies 12.5-13x kenndys and franklins 13-14x. walking liberties and merc 13.5-14.5x. Everything is +/- .5x Peace dollars ~20-21x ,morgans really depends on condition, date, mint anything under $20 is good over $26 you are testing yourself. BU $45+ AU $25-$40 (really depends on date though, this just assumes commons.)
  19. Well Rosies are less worn as well as Kennedy's but Mercs & Franklin's along with Walker's have an allure to them. I think we all try to get junk as close to spot as possible. If your in at $13 or so I think that's great. $13.50 is ok too? Usually Provident is a air barometer! I LOVE 90% Silver myself! Great pick ups bud! Preesh
