Junk Silver War Nickels (Why They Are Awesome)

Why Junk Silver War Nickels Are Amazing!! (1942-1945)

Comments

  1. I just found my first two war nickels
  2. yes but refineing cost are higher on war nickels on dimes refiners pay 98% of spot on war nickels that pay %50
  3. I've got 241 for 1.15 cents a piece if you are interested
  4. melting law has a clause that states does not apply to years 1942- 1945.   article 81.  u can melt em.  look at prospectors gold and gems site. they melt daily
  5. my coin shop charges 15x face for silver coins regardless of their content. Also if you look at the 90% dollars, 20 Ag nickels has more silver than 1 dollar  (90%). You get more silver with your money by going w/ ww2 nickels
  6. IT IS STRANGE HOW EVERY ONE SAYS WAR NICKLES ARE NOT GOOD TO BUY..IF SILVER WENT TO 100 BUCKS I BUT EVERYONE WOULD WANT THOSE WAR NICKLES THEN..LOL..SORRY FOR THE CAPS! BESIDES..YOU CANNOT MELT THEM ANYWAY UNLESS YOUR PLANNING ON BECOMING A FELON!
  7. I am also a war nickel lover, best bang for the buck. Good video man.
  8. awesome video!!! just found my first war nickel coin roll hunting :)
  9. I don't know how you manage it. I work in a drive through and I would never have the time to take more than a cursory glance at my change as I'm putting it away.
  10. Silver is Silver, and their unusual composition makes no less desirable then any other silver coin. Anytime I can get silver at or even below spot is a good thing.
  11. thanks for that info - very helpful!
  12. Isn't it illegal to melt ANY US coin. Silver in coins holds their value in the even of a collapse where they would have to be used as currency.
  13. You're thinking about dimes and quarters. Half Dollars still containing silver up to 1970. Nickels were ALWAYS nickel and copper except for these few war years. Also be careful of 1942, they made both silver ones and the traditional copper/nickel kind. Best way to tell is that only the silver ones have the mint mark over montecello.
  14. Just a thought. I have hade Silver American Eagles, 10oz Silver bars and 90% Silver Kennedy half dollars. The Eagles sell in one day,,,,the bars sell maybe in a week. The 90% coins took a month. I can't imagine trying to sell 35% war nickels. They are still cool though as long as liquidity isn't a consern.
  15. @Nozacat :O I buy 20 for like 20-30 cents under spot only buy them for underspot.
  16. I just started to collect them. Got 22 of them $1.39 UNDER spot. I posted a youtube video on why I started collecting them. If I saw your video a couple of months ago, I would've gone to the coin stores and bought a bunch of them. Keep on stacking!!!
  17. @nittanylion2012 I work as a cashier and often get silver coins in my drawer which i proceed to purchase for face value. Just tonight I got a war nickel that someone paid with. About two weeks ago I got two Roosevelt dimes in the same week. I got a few mercuries and a buffalo nickel. That is the only perk to my job.
  18. I disagree with buying war nickels being the better value because when you buy silver coins you are paying for the silver content so the price is based accordingly however, if you are coin roll hunting I buy hundred dollar boxes of nickels and have so far found one in every box. Now that is a better way to do it because the other coins are pretty rare in circulation and you get a better profit margin.
  19. SO are these the only nickels with any silver in them ? I though all coins pre-1964 had some silver, but I guess I was wrong . I checked out the site you mentioned and it seems only these nickels are worth more than a nickel, huh?
  20. I love war nickles don't get me wrong, even did a video on them. But I only bought them when the prices were advantageous to doing so. Now I am all for trading my war nickles in on the surges, and buying dimes on the dips. The reason, not every Tom Dick and Harry is going to be aware of the war nickle, but a Mercury dime, thats a coin known to most to be of silver. Roosevelt dimes can be turned on their side and shown to be deviod of copper. Its hard to convince a sheep that war nickles are Ag.
