Local Currency — Money for Us, Not the Bankers

"Back in the 1930s on the Olympic peninsula, people were paying their taxes in alternative money…The banks shut them down. This is an example of the monopoly the banks have, and the level of control they have over peoples' economic lives… People need to know [local currency] is a possibility, an option, a realistic tactical and powerful way to take back your economic power from the bankers." Fourth Corner Exchange co-founder Francis Ayley says the current debt-based global money system is an unsustainable Ponzi-scheme that will crash. By contrast, local currencies are unlimited, based on whatever members want to exchange. He and director Lia Ayley share the nuts and bolts for new members starting to exchange, how values are set, and exchanges involving both Life Dollars and US dollars. The biggest challenge, they say, is changing our mindset from the scarcity built into the existing monetary system to one based on relationships, cooperation and plenty. Episode 292. 2. Soc....could I take my Army Retirement Check and buy reloading supplies, and then trade the reloaded rounds for food from a local farmer? Something like that?
  3. Great vid. I barter in every way that I can in my community. It makes people more important than what they have in their wallets. Thanks. Sharing.
  4. Thank you very much for the video, Janaia! Where we could get more information about the theme, you think? We are interesting to implement it in some communities in Baltic states and Russia.
  5. Please consider and interview with Mike Montagne about Mathematically Perfected Economy. Thanks
  6. What would a relatively unskilled teen or an older person with no real ability to carry out tasks for others or put their skills to work do in such a system?
  7. Why another worthless paper currency? There is no advantage to it over cash. You want alternatives you easily trade gold or silver coins, rounds, and bars. No need to get stupid and mint them with dollar signs on them or anything, just so long as they are clearly marked with weight and purity. Problem is, I'd rather keep my metal coins and pay with dollars to anyone that will accept them. FRNs, gold, silver, and bitcoin can be used (converted to local currency) almost anywhere in the world.
  8. I love it when my favorite sustainability show starts talking about the issues with fiat currencies as well. Fiat currencies are always debt based and never last. Local currencies are a great solution for local transactions... but how about interviewing someone who knows their stuff about things like bitcoin, litecoin, etc?

Keep up the good work peak moment, i love you ladies!!!

  9. **Is it possible for me to buy a house with life dollars if I contact all the contractors involved in the process of building a home that happen to be members of fourth corner exchange?**
  10. I want pure 100 percent cold cash U.S.A.dollars.. the only way to go.
  11. is this taxable?
