Millionaire Basement Wars BBC Documentary 2015 - Landmass London Property Development

Luxury Interior Designer and Property Developer Landmass London feature where the super-rich are maximizing property value in the heart of London as never before. http://www.landmass.co.uk/ But they're not building up, they're digging down, creating mega-basements or 'iceberg homes' - nicknamed because there's more square footage under the ground than above. Over the last ten years an estimated 2000 new basements have been dug in central London. Into these multi-level subterranean structures owners are building anything from cinemas, swimming pools, beauty parlours, squash courts, wine cellars and servants' quarters. Some take as long as three years to complete. As well as the noise of the digging, fleets of concrete mixers and lorries taking away the dug soil service the sites. So life for neighbours in some of London's poshest addresses has been hell. As the Royal Borough of Kensington Council responds to angry residents and tries to regulate the number of mega-basements and the disruption they cause, this BBC film goes behind the hoardings to look inside the extraordinary structures and talk to builders, owners and irate neighbours to tell the story of the conflict that has gripped the millionaires and gold-paved streets of London's smartest postcodes. http://www.landmass.co.uk/

Comments

  1. PUKE
  2. Guarantee half of them are owned by rich fuckers who've never even seen the house.
  3. Did she call the bathroom the 'coke room'?
  4. this reminds me of shit I would do in minecraft lol these rich fucks are crazy
  5. Delicious millionaire tears. Cry you fucks
  6. This video would be much better if there was more of a segment on the basements themselves and less of people complaining.
  7. Echoes quite a lot during the 8:57 part. Is it because of all the stonework and lack of soft furnishings? Or is it typical to have acoustical challenges underground?
  8. A word to the BBC. Drop the annoying, idiotic and highly childish sounding 'plucked violin' music in all your documentaries. It's been done to death and is highly irritating. Less is more, and using this incredibly annoying 'muzak' all the way through a programme shows very little in the way of creative production values. If you want anyone to become adviser to the BBC on such matters, look no further.
  9. Goodness!. It's actor Stanley Meadows at 29:30. Significant actor from British cinema in films like The Ipcress File and television programmes like Lew Grade's ITC dramas, The Avengers and Persuaders! I am sure his wife Annabel is or maybe was in rep. and television too.

I remember my time at Peter Jones in Sloane Square, eventually working freelance in the area to many clients back in the 1990's (to present day) at how this generation felt the Royal Borough was slipping away from them to the vulgarity of OTT development from overseas investments. Take a walk up Sloane Street beyond Tite Street and you no longer feel you have any right to be there; such is the feeling of intimidation with blacked-out limo's and gilt-edged 'serious people' dressed in black.
  10. I feel sorry for the people who have to deal with this however I find it quite amusing that the man who is complaining about the basement builds lives in a basement.
  11. most of it is owned by arab they love buying house in london it's status symbol
  12. The people that are DESTROYING LONDON are not the immigrants but the
wealthy - who buy up properties at over inflated prices which has the effect of
increasing rents - many of these properties remain empty - so the owners make
absolutely no economic contribution to the economy - unlike the majority of
immigrants who pay taxes like the rest of us. the social cleansing of London is
carried out by the right wing government and their ilk. Nigel Farage is as bad
as the tories and anyone who believes that this multi millionaire gives a toss
about working class people is delusional!! Stp blaming immigrants and put the
blame where it belongs - with the money....divide and rule divide and rule!London is a beautiful city just wealthy bastards are destroying the place and pushing people out of their communities.
  13. Money talks and bullshit gets to do what it wants
  14. Whoa im homeless but i would like to get one here in Central London
If you got £999.999 please ask me for my paypal
    Xx
  15. They're great developments let me win the lottery and I'd have a staggered extension of two levels, be great for x-mas and family gatherings.
  16. U.K. Houses are so small!
  17. the developer is doing one next door to me, i am sick of it, and it has just started.
  18. Complains about rich developers. Lives in 10 million pound home.
  19. If i was Annabel I'd add a basement and then sell my place.
