Oil ETFs: How to Trade Options in USO

Find out everything that you need to know about the Oil ETF, USO! See more trading videos: http://bit.ly/1tzG9Ju The large moves in Oil (/CL) have provided us with some good trading opportunities. However if you are uncomfortable trading the large futures product, you can use USO instead. USO is the oil ETF that tracks the price of oil. Since the fund can not hold he physical product, they have to continuously roll the futures contracts. This causes a natural drag when the futures market is in Contango (front month futures are more expensive than back month futures). Due to this drag, USO has been underperforming /CL in recent months. Today, Tom Sosnoff and Tony Battista take a look at how closely USO tracks /CL. They find that on average this year for every $1 gain in /CL, USO will move $0.31. The guys also explain how USO is a good trading vehicle but due to the drag, should not be used as a long term buy and hold investment! ======== tastytrade.com ======== Finally a financial network for traders, built by traders. Comments

  1. Since IVR for USO is very high now (100%) would it be a good time to sell premium on USO options? Sell Calls or Puts or do Credit Spreads? Which would be best?
  2. Obviously not something that the casual retail trader should venture into. This video gave me the information that I needed to make a decision to stay away from USO or any other commodity ETF.
  3. Can there be some stiff tax consequences for holding it over a long period (a few months or more)?
