This is a song about racist Christians (a kind of people which the south is full of) and hypocrites that don't do what they preach/pray.

There's a simpler, live in the studio version that is just as good - it was a B-side to another single from the album, "Bittersweet Me". I have both versions in my REM playlist. This is a great song!
