Comments

  1. love those sounds of summer coming soon outside my east window. dig those summer nights and my jjcreator.blogspot.com i'll be up very early to meet you there and tell everyone that Jesus loves them. voices talking somewhere.
  2. 2:18 Peter Buck thinking: 'I could make a hit out of this riff'
  3. Anyone watched the game grumps everything play through and then think of this song
  4. Sometimes I feel like I can't even sing (say, say, the light)
I'm very scared for this world, I'm very scared for me (say, say, the light)
    Eviscerate your memory
    Here's a scene
You're in the backseat laying down, the windows wrap around (say, say, the light)
To sound of the travel and the engine (say, say, the light)
All you hear is time stand still in travel
And feel such peace and absolute
The stillness still that doesn't end
    But slowly drifts into sleep
The stars are the greatest thing you've ever seen
    And they're there for you
For you alone, you are the everything

I think about this world a lot and I cry (say, say, the light)
And I've seen the films and the eyes
But I'm in this kitchen (say, say, the light)
    Everything is beautiful
And she is so beautiful (say, say, the light)
She is so young and old
I look at her and I see the beauty of the light of music (say, say, the light)
The voices talking somewhere in the house, late spring
And you're drifting off to sleep with your teeth in your mouth
    You are here with me
    You are here with me
You have been here and you are everything

Sometimes I feel like I can't even sing (say, say, the light)
I'm very scared for this world, I'm very scared for me (say, say, the light)
    Eviscerate your memory

  5. inexpected begining
  6. Words cannot describe the emotions that stir when I hear this song. My feelings are as impressionistic or as abstract as the lyrics. "Here's a scene you're in the back seat laying down the windows wrap around to the sound of the travel and the engine..."
I'm back in college and hopelessly in love with this man...it's so innocent and so primal somehow...
  7. This reminds me of the first, and only, love of my life. We lived the lyrics, and it meant so much. At least it did to me.
  8. peter buck thinking: "I ll try the mandoline again this medieval instrument will make the best song of the XX Century"
  9. Bought this tape on trip to Bali in 89. Listened to this song for the first time coming down on mushrooms in bed. With your teeth in your mouth....... All three of us got it at once, tonguing our teeth. Had to brush straight away.
  10. my dad sang this song to me while playing the guitar when i was young and replaced lyrics "you're drifting off to sleep with your teeth in your mouth" to "you're drifting off to sleep with your passy (pacifier) in your mouth"... he passed away a month ago and i forgot about this song for at least a decade... it means so much more to me now :'(
  11. my daughter was born 12 weeks premature and I always think of her when I hear this song . You are everything Susan.
  12. Great song. Had this on my playlist forever
  13. Who thumbed this down??
  14. third best behind harbour coat and sitting still ,,,,,,but then there's perfect circle ,gardening at night ,,,,,yes hard to choose
  15. for whatever reason, this song always put my daughter right to sleep, from a newborn. so it became her lullaby. Thank You 😃
  16. I love this song... Michael forever!
  17. My x husband taught me how to play this on the mandolin and I love it - thank you Iain xxx
  18. The greatest song ever written? At least in REM's history? Sad, let uplifting. Mandolin, accordion, maybe Stipe's best lyric.
  19. I was only 17 when I first heard this song. I can still remember the sense of nostalgia that it brought on.
  20. "World Leader Pretend" had the lyrics that seem to be considered Stipes best by many, but I don't know, I just prefer this song so much more. Its just seems to encompass so much, and you have to admire a singer who can incorporate the word ''eviscerate" into a song and sound totally natural and unpretentious singing it. I read somewhere that he was singing about his grandmother as the subject of the song, but it can be interpreted in so many different ways. I enjoyed reading some of the comments on here. Nostalgia is a powerful, bittersweet, thing.
