  1. Thanks for the video. It's very helpful for choosing lenses and bodies.
  2. So insteresting info. Thanks a bunch for this very useful video
  3. thank you Tony. I learned and corrected some of my flawed thinking on apsc combinations.
  4. what about my case having a Nikon D7100 i just purchased a Nikkor FX 50mm 1.8g. I was not paying attention to the "fx" and now I find out is not a "dx" mount. It does fit and works but Should I get a different lens because I don't want to waste my money on the wrong buy.
  5. Have I a question? with the lenses that are designed for crop sensor cameras. Do you still have to use the ratio of 1.5-1.6 ect when working out the F stop and focal length?

The reason I ask is that if the lens shrinks the final image to fit perfectly on to the crop sensor, unlike the full frame lens.
Does this not mean that the sensor is getting the same amount of light and the same image that would be on a full frame lens?
And if this is not the case why do the lens manufacturers still use the same as the full frame equivalent, bearing in mind that most crop lenses can not be used effectively on full frame cameras...

    I hope this makes sense.
  6. Question on P-Mpix: Why does it seem like all lens (regardless designed for full frame or APSC) when mounted on APSC bodies will nearly always have lower sharpness/P-Mpix on DXO ratings? Is it how DXO measures things or will you just get sharper results on full frame?
  7. I have a Nikon D7100 and was looking at  few full frame lenses to take advantage of the camera's auto focus motor. So what Tony is saying is that my photo's won't be as clear/sharp as a lens for apc cameras?
  8. very m useful technical details , thumbsup
  9. https://www.flickr.com/photos/145119226@N05/33109983614/in/dateposted-friend/ Tony , I framed it with my D7100 fx lens and cropped. I got older and colder is it not enough sharp this one on my DX -SLR ?
  10. Thank you! This cleared up viral things I was confused about.
  11. Hello,

I have Nikon D7100 what it will be best combination in term of sharpness, depth of field and performance with Sigma Art Lens series( 18-35mm f1.8 and 50-100mm f1.8)
  12. oh for god sake...if you want to be this technical, be an engineer not photographer.
  13. Who else could explain something so subtle so clearly. Thanks Tony!
  14. I like your videos, they're very informative
  15. Investing in in fullframe glass for an aps-c body does often not make sense at all, that's where you're absolutely right. But suppose you have somehow committed yourself to a sensor size, investing in glass makes perfect sense! Say you buy a D500 and your budget is only enough for some cheapo 18-55 kit lens, someone else who bought a D5600 and invested the rest of the money into some well selected high quality glass will run circles around you.
  16. Dear Tony & Chelsea. Will "Image Quality" is much different when using APS-C lens on Full-Frame camera? In my case I have A7II, I am considering using 10-18mmF4 (APS-C around $850) to replace 16-35mmF4 (Fullframe around $1300) lens to lower cost of investment in lenses. Thank you for your clear answers.
  17. If I use Metabones speed booster on my APS-C body is there any possibility I can get same P-MP with the FF body? I'm considering for upgrade my gear either buy FF body or add the Metabones speed booster and change my lenses to FF lenses. thx
  18. "Perceptual Megapixels" is not an objective scientific measurement, it is a proprietary marketing term trademarked by DxO Labs. Although DxO has not divulged complete technical details on its perceptual ranking evaluations, they are clearly averaging sharpness measurements across the sensor in order to produce a single number to rank the sharpness of camera and lens combinations. That makes DxO's "perceptual megapixels" rankings invalid and misleading for evaluating the results of using full frame lenses on APS-C cameras, since it intentionally obscures the difference between a lens' center-frame and edge resolution. Employing this kind of marketing hype to claim that a kit lens on an APS-C camera will produce "better results" than a pro full-frame lens is where Tony jumps the shark and reveals his true colors.
  19. would a Canon - EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens work good on a Canon 80d?
  20. Tony, great job as usual... i took the "glass first" advice that everyone has/was giving.i have 7Dii and now i cant decide if i should buy the 5div or 5dsr, love the sensor size of 5dsr, but focusing and touch screen of 5div is also great, as a non professional everyone is telling me i will not notice the sensor advantage of the 5dsr....ironically these are the same folks who told me to buy "glass first"....confused!
