Sintra Tutorial: The Basics

I love Sintra! It's a fabulous building material that can be used for anything from automail to armor to accessories. If this video isn't enough, check out my other Sintra tutorial where I take you through an entire build of an automail arm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsD1KbuCOwY Be sure to visit my facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/RennaCosplay Want to buy PVC sheets! 1. hi, thanks a lot. just wanted to drop an idea, maybe using a hair dryer would be a good tool add flexibility in order to shape it.
  2. Are these board the same? sintra board, gator board, pvc board ,pvc foam board?
  3. Well presented.
    also, very beautiful. ;-)
  4. thanks for explaining this im making a iron man suit and carboard isint working
  5. yup Sintra its a place here in Portugal...and im not a machine that puts spam on coments =)
  6. Instead of using a hunk of solid wood you can carve a scabbard out of EVA foam in two layers and glue them with barge cement. Then cover that with sintra and you have a useable scabbard.
  7. For anyone in the comments section...

Sintra is pretty strong in my experience. I made a large cosplay prop, AoT 3DMG, with it 3 years ago and it has survived a thunder storm (long story), summer heat, and crowded conventions with people bumping it (by accident I hope) me bumping into walls, statues, and it's still in great condition with no cracks. Whereas everyone else who made theirs with Styrofoam and craft foam were obliterated by the end of the first con day. As the vid said it might crack with a large impact, but for most people it will do just fine if you're not purposefully rough with it. If you're impatient or have a shaky hand, get a craft saw because any issue I had with sintra was due to uneven cuts (I did a lot of straight lines) so I had to sand a lot. My blade would 'run' when I would score so go slow and take your time if you don't have a saw. I second the vid on getting black sintra because scratches in the paint resulted in looking like war damage, which is what I wanted. I used dark shades of green so I can't speak about light colours on dark sintra. I used 3mm and found it's too floppy for a sword unless you double up or use a rigid backing. In a pinch even floppy sintra swords worked better than cardboard which again, died on me the first day of con. I mean, even floppy it held straight in photos but I think perfectionists might want something more rigid. Generally, stick with 1mm or 3mm. I know someone who made their entire gear with 6mm and it was very heavy for her, whereas 3mm gear for me only weighed all together three pounds.
  8. I'm confused as to why I've seen larp armour sellers using sintra, won't it just crack from a large impact?
  9. Thank you so much. That helped me a huge lot.
  10. Great info thanks! i am just starting up my adventures into sintra, very exciting. Also i realize that this video was made a couple a years ago but who on ebay do you buy your sintra from? im hoping its still going for that price thanks!
  11. just... thank you <3
  12. hi! I was wondering if I could do some shoulder pads like the Claymore ones with sintra, they are round shaped, almost half a sphere... is it possible? thank you!
  13. Glue would you suggest then using this?
  14. Does sintra normally have the foam inside?
  15. In an annotation you said you can boil the sintra, does that prevent fumes and what is the mess you mentioned? Does the water ruin the material?
  16. Great TYVM
  17. Can u do one on worbla? :) :D
