My name is Brian Isabelle from Fidelity’s Trading Strategy Desk. Today we’re here to talk about Market Volatility. Unless you live on an island, completely unconnected to the world… you’ve seen, heard or read about Market Volatility. Just take a look at a chart… it’s everywhere. Now when we talk about Market Volatility there are a couple different types of people who approach it differently. Those who see it as something to fear or be fearful of… or those who see it as an opportunity. Depending on which one of those you are is going to effect how you approach it. Now… one of the first things I like to look at every day is Fidelity’s IV Index Monitor. It’s a great one-stop shop. I can get an idea of where the volatilities are rising… where the volatilities are falling… and by how much. Now this can help me make a decision as to whether I want to be a buyer… or if I want to be a seller and it can help uncover opportunities I might not find otherwise. Now if you’re someone who sees volatility as something to be afraid of… well maybe you’re looking more at risk mitigation types of orders in Trade Armor where you can put in a stop, or stop loss, or trailing stop. Now if you’re a little more sophisticated… you might be looking at inverse or negatively correlated investments to your portfolio. And if you’re even a little more sophisticated than that… you may be looking at options as a hedge for either an individual position… or for your whole portfolio. Now on the other hand if you’re someone that finds Market Volatility to be an opportunity… you may want to look at Fidelity’s Implied Volatility Index Chart. It’s a great way for you to take a look at where are we right now with volatility compared to where has it been in the past…. And it’s a nice quick and easy way to help make your decision as to where you think it’s going to go in the future. Now clearly this isn’t a complete discussion about all aspects of Market Volatility… But if you’d like to have that conversation… don’t hesitate… call one of our trade specialists here at Fidelity and we’ll be more than happy to continue the conversation.
