5. At Gruntal...they had a great option trading desk. I learned how to make money in good markets, bad markets, and neutral markets. I began trading credit spreads and ratio spreads to generate income and protect positions for clients. Larry Starr and Eliott Sparr headed out the desk. Larry had been trading since the inception of the options exchange. He had told me that Carl Icahn had been an options trader at Gruntal and left to start his own fund. He took 8 Gruntal traders with him. At the time Larry was head of the Gruntal options desk. Icahn had asked Larry to go with his new firm. Larry declined and stayed with Gruntal to head their options desk and head of options strategies. Larry, who has passed away, was a great trader and excellent option strategies. I bought a book by Ken Tressler on Option Strategies. My eyes opened like a blind man. Writing out of the money credit spreads was like owning my own printing machine. I was selling the opposite side of the trade nothing of any intrinsic value....I was literally selling time( and volatility) but nothing of any true intrinsic value. Plus, I was able to trade out these positions and take them out further or more out of the money to protect profits or avert losses if the trade turned against me! What could be easier. It only required a little patience, capital, and knowledge. Yet the concept of writing options to collect premium wasn't a thoroughly covered or researched topic....fortunately. I think TastyTrade is great. They put everything In a reL perspective for both novices and experienced traders. Great job TastyTrade and the Think or Swim platform is great. Hope it doesn't become too well known. I don't want other people trading against my positions because they saw trades on think or swim. Matt Brady
6. I had been a stockbroker for 20 years. Started with Butcher & Singer...went to Morgan Stanley...moved to Gruntal which was bought by Ryan Beck who was than bought by Siffel Nicholas. Did some covered calls in my first 10 years as a broker, but when I moved to Gruntal & Co. everything changed. Most warehouses and large regional don't like brokers doing anything more complicated than writing calls. They use their options desk to trade against their retail clients and hedge overloaded retail client positions and basically trade against them in their own institutional account

17. Ha,ha ... you are new to TastyTrade aren't you! Certainly ThinkOrSwim ... & Tradestation, are what I'm most familiar with. There's a number of good trading platforms, but of course it can also depend on your commission schedule, ... and of course, just getting familiar with one, altho you need to get good fills on your trades, and there are differences.
