Beginning scene of the new HBO series The Newsroom explaining why America's not the greatest country any longer... But it can be.

Comments

  1. at it's height america was not socialist. it was about self reliance and earning your way up.
  2. United states is not the greatest country in the world it is a country designed to spend insurance in everything you have, you have to pay even for the air you breathe, it is not a free country since there are thousants of laws against imigrants and even residents, it is a country that has not to do anything in others countries like Siria, Irak or North Korea, why are they so interested in these countries? if these coutries are so far away (money power and control the WORLD) that´s it,

the American Dream is a total fake, the American dream is a model specially created by the powerful people to make believe this in everybody, it is just a system designed to bring all the possible money to their country with specific VISAS designed in a clever way, nobody in the USA is a real American, only the Apache indians, Incas, Aztecas and more indian groups are the real owners of these lands from Argentina to Canada and Alaska,
  3. this is movie?
  4. America has fallen because of diversity. Period.
  5. "Acted like men" doesn't really go off well in a speech like this.
  6. There seems to be a vicious cycle here. According to McAvoy, people don't like liberals 'cause they lose. I'll add: liberals lose because people don't like them.
  7. & PEOPLE ACT LIKE OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH MAKES US GREAT. U CAN STILL GO TO JAIL FOR SAYING THE WRONG THING! PEOPLE NEVER READS WHAT FREEDOM OF SPEECH REALLY MEANS
  8. A sea of contradictions. The anger was unnecessary and stupid, just a cru of attention from that character and if the US is not the greatest country in the world how is it that every other cpuntry depends on it? The statement the guy did was ridiculous, there is no such thing as a perfect society, highlighting the flaws of the US doesn't make it less powerful or vulnerable. whoever thinks the US is about to collapse is thinking as an extremist. Well, now that Trump took over the future is looking darker as now US citizens will be required to have a Visa to enter visit the countries in the EU, and maybe more will join in on that. As Trump acts like a paranoid lunatic thinking everyone is out to homb us and destroy us, the world will react accordingly. Trump acts as if the world was his house and the countries were his children and Melania that have to swallow his BS. The world will now bow down to Trump. Plain and simple.
  9. Everyone wants to hear that they are the greatest but no wants to hear the truth about them.
  10. "It sure used to be..."

I think after this is all nostalgia speak though. I generally like this speech/sentiment but it goes off the rails after that point in my opinion.
  11. you are free to leave if you hate this country so much!
  12. It was great until the music kicked in. Totally lost credibility there.
  13. What series and episode is it please ?
  14. IMPRESSIVE!!!!!
  15. the only part I disagree with is him saying to the 22 year old girl her generation is the worst, she has had 4 years of adult hood, it is that mans generation who ran the country into the ground, that man's generation who squandered the wealth of the greatest generation, that man's generation who is borrowing money from the 22 year olds generation , and that man's generation who is blaming the generation who hasn't even stepped onto the stage of power for being the worst generation. maybe just maybe if that man's generation lived up to the generation before his which he held in such high standing, this country wouldnt be in the shape it's in. you sir are the worst generation of americans
  16. the last part kanye voice ( how sway )
  17. You got Trump now, good luck. I am sorry about it too.
  18. It's a great response up until the 2:00 mark. My country (U.S.) is far from the best in the world. If Aaron Sorkin (writer of this show) were honest, he'd admit that the United States' economy became great on the backs of two World Wars.

Wars have always been the impetus for technological advancement. The United States wages war almost constantly nowadays, whether from the shadows (cyber-security) or on the battlefield (Syria, Libya). And we are still making great technological leaps because of it.

With that said, the revolution is coming and we will join the rest of the world in the initiative to save our planet, and the generation that this fictional character derides may well be responsible for fixing the idiotic mistakes of our fathers and fathers before them. The Newsroom was a stupid show. Don't watch it.
  19. Donald Trump is right: We aren't great anymore. But its because other countries followed our example and ran with it while we tried to "restore values" and basically turn back the clock. We united a world to fight Nazism and said "have no fear, we can do so much together". And the developed nations carried the torch, caring for their people, globalizing, sharing ideas...And we kept saying "Greatest Country on Earth" as if it wasn't because we always moved forward, knowing perfection was a myth.
  20. "America isn't the greatest country in the world"
Americans: U PIECE OF LYING FILTH I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW...
"England isn't the greatest country in the world"
English: You're fucking right this shithole isn't.
