New Rs 500, Rs 2000 notes: All you need to know Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a sudden address to the nation, announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes are being withdrawn from midnight, saying it was part of a crackdown on rampant corruption. Here is what you need to know about the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 note. The Reserve Bank of India is introducing new design banknotes in the denomination of Rs 2000 as part of Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. The new denomination has motif of the Mangalyaan on the reverse, depicting the country's first venture in interplanetary space. The base colour of the note is magenta. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both on the obverse and the reverse.
