What is a 401(k) | by Wall Street Survivor

What is a 401(k)? A 401k is a workplace savings plan that allows you to build wealth by investing a portion of your pay check in assets such as stocks, mutual funds, or real estate investment trusts (REITs). It is also the primary way employers help their employees prepare for retirement, and has the added benefit of allowing an employee to invest part of their salary before taxes are taken out. While all 401k plans offer tax breaks to retirement savers, many other features of these retirement accounts differ, sometimes significantly, by employer. 401k plans are an effective way to shelter money from taxes because your contributions are deducted from your taxable income. So if you made $50,000 last year and invested $10,000 in your 401k, you’d only have to pay taxes on the remaining $40,000. This can be a great tactic, especially for people who live well within their means and can afford to save a big chunk of their salary. 5. This is not the whole story of 401k. To avoid penalty, the client can only withdraw it between a certain number of years, usually retirement age. Before and after that is penalized. Not only that, the full amount might not be there, not only because of tax is going to increase in the future, but the money is invested in the money market. If the client is lucky, by the time they retire, the money might increase, but if the market crashes during the client's retirement year (example: real estate bubble & 9/11), then the client will not have enough money to retire, therefore forced to keep on working. Biggest government scheme ever! They force you to pay the bigger tax (guaranteed increasing tax in the future) instead of the smaller tax in the early age.

  15. Good video! I'd like to make one critique though... the sound fx for the objects are louder than the narrator's voice and very frequent as well so I find it pretty distracting. Removing or lowing the volume of the sound fx would be nice for future videos IMO.
