China's Argument: Tibet was absorbed about 800 years ago during the Yuan Dynasty, becoming an inseparable part of China. It has not been a country since and no country has ever recognized Tibet as an independent state. The Facts: It’s true that whilst Tibet maintained a unique culture, written and spoken language, religion and political system for centuries, it has never been a nation-state in the modern sense of the word. At times in its long past, Tibet has influenced and been influenced by various foreign powers, including Britain and the Mongols, as well as China. However, the Chinese government’s claim that Tibet has been part of China for around 800 years isn't supported by the facts. Tibet was not ruled by the Chinese government prior to the 1950 invasion. In 1912, the 13th Dalai Lama - Tibet's political and spiritual leader - issued a proclamation reaffirming Tibet’s independence and the country maintained its own national flag, currency, stamps, passports and army. It signed international treaties and maintained diplomatic relations with neighboring countries. From a legal point of view Tibet remains an independent state under illegal occupation, a fact that China wishes it could whitewash from history. Reasons why China need Tibet: WATER Most of river flows into China originates from Tibet region. So in order to have control over the waters China need Tibet. Most of the 75 % of water flows into China mainland originated from Tibetian plateau. Although Chinese have lot of modern day export products still many homes depend on the agriculture of Chinese population. This increases the Chinese to have control over the waters which flows from uphill to downhill. TERRAIN Tibet is mostly comprised of hilly Himalayan mountains which make them secure against aggression on their eastern side. Because there is less population of people to control and hard terrain to invade. So not only in current situation but even in history shows hardy any one attacked from western side of their nation. If you look at Chinese history most of the conquest happened from their eastern side. So they are building artificial Island on south Chinese sea. So Tibet will help them in future even Super power cannot afford to reach them from western Side. But if Tibet was not in their control anyone reach Chinese mainland from Tibet. Even in hypothetical theory even if full scale Indo-China war happens. They got nothing to lose if India invaded through Tibet. On the other hand Indian States neighboring China will get suffer huge property and human loses. FAKE MULTI-CULTURAL PROPAGANDA Unlike India mainland Chinese does not have lot of multicultural society. In case of Tibet They have different culture compared to mainland China. So they use Tibet as their tool to show the world that they are multi culture. But in real theory the Tibet does not like to be dominated by the Chinese culture.
