Why Long Term Investing Makes Sense

Presenter: Swagat This video will talk about why long term investing makes sense and why we here at Soni Bros, love it. Long term investing makes sense to us because it takes years for businesses to grow significantly and when you buy shares, you are buying a piece of a business. If it takes businesses years to grow significantly, it will take years for your investment to grow significantly. Successful long term investing can be best illustrated by famous investors like Warren Buffett. Warren Buffett started buying shares Coca Cola in 1988 and still holds shares today. He has a quote about his time horizon: "When we own portions of outstanding businesses with outstanding managements, our favorite holding period is forever" - Warren Buffett This video also talks about why we are not fans of short term trading. It is possible to make money investing in the short term, however, it is a much smaller gain (if any). If someone invests on Monday and sells their investment on Friday, they can make a profit, but this profit won't be nearly as big as if they held the investment for years and then sold it.. Us advocating long term investing doesn't mean that holding for the long term is all there is to investing. One should find an outstanding business, invest in it, and check on it every now and then to make sure that the business remains outstanding and is still doing the same things that made you want to invest in it in the first place. 1. I agree with you on long term investment. However, I don't think anyone has ability, resources or time to properly analyze the individual companies. I recommend broad based index fund/ETF. It's almost impossible to beat the index return anyway.
  2. I kind of agree. Short term only works out if you have hundreds of thousands to millions going in. Otherwise, you wont see much profit.
  3. i'm ok with the idea of investing long term, except one problem i have is some people say when your stock was doing well but then goes down 5% and keeps going down slowly or fast, you should not sell wait for it to go back up, others say if the stock keeps going down sell asap, and then reinvest when that company is doing well again or in another company, my way of thinking is sell the company before i lose way too much money, your thoughts.
